Baseball Hall-of-Famer, Wade Boggs, played third base for the Boston Red Sox. It’s said that Boggs hated playing at Yankee Stadium because of an obnoxious fan in a box seat close to the field. Every time Boggs was on the field, the man hurled insults and obscenities at him.
One day when the verbal assaults began during pre-game practice, Boggs walked over to the edge of the field and asked the fan if he was the one always yelling at him. The man said, “Yah, what of it?” Boggs pulled out a new baseball, autographed it and gave it to his antagonist.
The Bible says, “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other.” And that’s exactly what Wade Boggs did. His kindness changed the angry man from an adversary to a fan.
