How many times have you heard it said about a talented athlete, “He has a real gift?”
But how often do you stop to think about where that gift comes from?
Jesus gave his disciples all sorts of gifts, including the ability to cast out evil spirits and heal the sick. Yet he also told them, “Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Jesus wanted his followers to remember what was truly important – not that they could do these incredible things, but rather that their place in heaven was secure.
It’s easy in today’s society to celebrate one another’s gifts to the point where we forget that it’s God doing the truly amazing work. After all, there is greater gift than knowing you’ve received eternal life through believing in Jesus Christ.
