I remember the first time I went bowling in junior high school. A classmate’s ball hit me so hard I thought I would never walk again, much less bowl. But I learned about bowling that day. I learned that the idea is to roll the ball down the lane in the middle and to stay out of the gutters on either side.
When you think about it, life is like bowling. On one side is the gutter of pride and on the other side is the gutter of low self-esteem. The goal of the game is to stay in the center and avoid the gutters.
The Bible tells us how God loves us and has a plan for our lives but it also teaches us to be humble. Humility is crucial for it keeps us out of the gutters of pride and low self-esteem and puts us well on our way toward making a strike in our Christian lives.
